About Department :
Introduction :
The Department of Pharmacology came into existence in 2001. The courses provided by the department at present are under graduate courses. There are 5 international and 7 national publications from this department. Work on herbal remedies has been started and the set up for herbal unit is on the process. Pharmacovigilance centre has been set up and various studies related with it is being carried out like Pharmacovigilance in Herbal Drug and Pharmacovigilance in ART.

Department of Pharmacology is actively involved in training 2nd Prof. MBBS, BSc Nursing students in both theoretical as well as practical aspects of pharmacology. The theoretical aspects are supplemented by technological innovations in teaching pharmacology. Practical aspects of pharmacology are covered in traditional extemporaneous pharmacy and prescription writing for common diseases. This is included keeping in view of rational drug use and the implication of pharmacoeconomics.

Besides teaching, students are also trained for detecting, analyzing and reporting Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) as a part of curriculum. The Department is committed to provide best quality and clinically oriented information to MBBS students to make them into rational prescribers.

Infrastructure & Facilities :

Clinical Pharmacy Lab : A well-equipped clinical pharmacy lab with well-trained pharmacist is running by the department. The modern way of teaching to the medical graduates makes it relevant in the present scenario.

Research Lab : A well-equipped Research Lab for carrying out the research in the field of Neuro-pharmacology, Psycho-pharmacology, Cardio-vascular pharmacology and Respiratory pharmacology is recently being established. Instrument available in the Research Lab are:

Museum : The Department has a well-designed Museum with beautiful glass shelves to display drugs & herbal medicine. A separate section depicting the history of medicine through various charts and photographs of great scientist of all times is present in the gallery of the department.

Library : A well-stocked library with 143 books of different field. The department is free wifi zone which helps the faculty members and students to get instant access to internet for educational purpose.

Research : The Department is having a thurst for the clinical research. The Department had organized a one day CME programme on Good Clinical Practice (Ethics in Clinical Research) on 4 August, 2018.

ADR Monitoring Centre (AMC) : The tireless effort of Professor (Dr.) Presenjit Raut to establish ADR monitoring centre under Pharmacovigilance Programme of India made the Department of Pharmacology, CIMS Bilaspur in 2019 to start Adverse Drug Reaction monitoring program which of course is second in the state and is also one of the milestone for the Institute. The centre is also receiving the ADR reports from the different hospitals of the states.

Future plans include the setting up of the Drug & Poison Information Centre and Therapeutic Drug Monitoring unit in the hospital under the Department of Pharmacology.
