About Department :
Introduction :
The specialized dermatological & sexually transmitted diseases clinical and teaching services started in Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Science in 2001. Dr. J.P. Swain is working as the head of the department.
Facilities Available in Department :
Department has fully equipped outpatient department which offers treatment services in the field of Dermatology, STD and Leprosy. Outpatient clinics function daily for Skin, STD and Leprosy patients; it caters to an average 250 patient per day. Minor OT services are also available daily, which include electric & chemical cautery, Cryo, intra-lesional injections and skin biopsy etc. Urban Leprosy center also runs in OPD. The department has in-patient care facilities with one ward of 15 beds.
The department has a fully equipped seminar cum demonstration hall with audio-visual facility. Computer facility equipped with multimedia projector is available. Departmental Library, with latest books and journals on Skin, STD & Leprosy and books of other basic MBBS subjects are available.
Health services to the community - The department actively participates in the Leprosy Elimination Programme, NACO STD project, HIV Programme, ART training and various time to time programmes conducted by state and central government.
Research and Achievements :
Various scientific research & project works have been carried out in the department in the last 9 years. Dr. J.P Swain has published many papers in National journals of Leprosy and Dermatology. He has conducted DNB local appraiser examinations at Bhilai. Presently study on childhood leprosy attending CIMS is going on in the department.

Courses :
MBBS courses of DVL is taught to the students from 4th semester onwards. MD in Dermatology is soon going to be started in the department for which necessary steps has been taken by the State Government.

Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS), Bilaspur
Hospital is 550 beded and run by unit systems. It is a dietary Hospital. Clinical side rooms (CSR) are available in the ward. All basic and advanced investigations are done in the hospital. It has a central laboratory with three components (Biochemistry, Pathology & Microbiology).
