From The Desk of Dean
Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS), Bilaspur, CG
Dear Students,
I consider it an honour to have been appointed as the Dean Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences, (CIMS) Bilaspur (C.G.), is a second biggest Medical college of Chhattisgarh State. It is one the fastest growing Medical College (Institute) where learning and skill development are taught by erudite scholars in medicine. They are now veritable macrocosms of team work with many individuals working in unison to prevent and treat diseases, promote health and wellness, conduct research which is relevant to our people and render service to the underserved lacks of people of Chhattisgarh State and a part of the Jharkhand State.
To me, a medical institution must fulfill its mandate by producing the best graduate medical doctors who are prepared to render their services with empathy, professionalism and social responsibility. The consultants and post graduates should demonstrate knowledge, skills and attitudes that will support basic clinical or laboratory amenities with high end diagnostic and treatment services which are prudently selected and delivered with compassion and a holistic approach. Nursing and other paramedical services must provide all aspects of patient care with the aim of not just treating patients but also to use every opportunity to educate patients regarding elements of personal hygiene, nutrition and maintenance of a clean environment. The unique geographical placement of CIMS, Bilaspur permits the people of Bilaspur division as well as other parts of Chhattisgarh to reach the hospital quickly and easily. As the services improve, we have seen a large increase in the numbers of patients flocking to obtain treatment. This in itself is a testimony to the care rendered by our faculty and staff.
The students of CIMS Bilaspur, are selected by a process which ensures transparency (NEET), so that the best, of the best get a chance to pursue their dreams. The ambience and culture of the organization facilitates self-directed learning and promotes our students to become lifelong learners capable of working in the most challenging environments with service to humanity as their goal.
My role as the Chief Executive Officer of this institute will be to show the way and to facilitate and enable each and every staff, student and faculty member to reach their maximum potential. To that end, I intend to modify the curriculum of all courses according to NMC norms by introducing a competency based curriculum, with newer methods of teaching-learning, improved assessment systems and more integration of basic sciences with clinical subjects. I hope to open hospital services that are affordable and cost effective, ensuring that all patient safety measures are in place. Community outreach programmes to address health issues of nearby rural areas will be given priority. The administrative machinery will be systematized to cope with the increasing staff and student strength by conducting all recruitments, ensuring that all approved projects are completed according to timelines, providing adequate IT infrastructure such as wi-fi connectivity and the establishment of e-governance in administration, academics and the hospital services. I also hope to initiate staff and student wellness initiatives and to further support and strengthen the environment cleanliness measures that are in place. CIMS Bilaspur will also play a role in policy formulation, providing information, technical support and advice to healthcare policy makers at all levels. It sounds a tall order at this time, but I am sure with the support of the Chhattisgarh Government, staff, students, faculty and the people of Bilaspur Division of Chhattisgarh State, it will be accomplished in due course. I look forward to this journey which I have been privileged to undertake.
